WHAT IS THE "VELVET ELVIS"
SKI & SERVE RETREAT?
It's just that - a Winter Ski Retreat.
30 participants
2 days of travel
2 days of skiing
1 day of a service project
4 nights of worship
"PAINTING" IS AN OPTION
The book title is inspired by an actual black velvet painting of Elvis he has tucked away in his basement. Whoever "painted" that Velvet Elvis was creating art for a specific time and a specific place... (the 1960's or 70's is likely) a time and place that have now passed.
"Christianity," Bell says, "is a lot like that painting. It is not supposed to be frozen in time. Artists paint it afresh for each new generation."
We are hoping to learn how to "repaint our Christian faith."
WHO CAN "PAINT"?
VELVET ELVIS is open to students, grades 7-12
WHAT TO DO:
Turn in a notarized 2008-09 Consent Form (included with registration) if not on file.
Turn in registration and $100 deposit NLT Sunday 07DEC to Student Center mailbox. Only 25 student spots available. A waiting list will be developed.
Attend the Mandatory Participant/Parent Meeting on Wednesday 14JAN 7:30pm

RETREAT
Mark your calendars for 21-25JAN! We're taking 30 participants to Sugar Mountain in Boone, NC (skisugar.com)for a retreat filled with skiing, service, and spiritual growth. We'll be staying at Comfort Suites in Boone (see tour). Pick up your registration form in the StudentCenter or download here.

*We have fundraisers before and after the trip (so you can pay off any balance owed).
PARTICIPANT-PARENT MEETING

Student Center
Each student participant and one parent will meet to receive emergency numbers, room assignments, a detailed schedule & trip info, and pay any balance due.
