17-24 JULY 2010
Destination: TBD
Last year: Tennessee
ASP serves 17 counties in eastern Tennessee.
The University of Tennessee is located in Knoxville, in or near the county we'll be working in. Tennessee became a state in 1796.
The 2008 U.S. Census report showed that the poverty rate in Tennessee rose more quickly than the national rate. This undoubtedly will affect the eastern counties of Tennessee located in the Appalachia region of the state.
COST: Total To Be Determined; $150 Deposit due with Registration No Later Than Sunday 07FEB.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 07FEB (include $150 deposit). Late registrations will incur a $25 late fee unless wait-listed. Each participant must complete the essay portion of the registration.
"EACH ONE, INVITE ONE" INITIATIVE
GET $25 OFF YOUR REGISTRATION by recruiting a first-time participant to go to ASP! ASP has asked us to help double the number of ASP participants so more homes can be made "safer, warmer, and drier." Many homes go without repair each summer because there simply aren't enough workers to get to them all. Help us and ASP do more this summer!
WHAT IS ASP?
ASP provides vital housing services to low-income families living in Appalachia as well as transformational life experiences to those they serve - volunteers offering their service, congregations involved with ASP, and entire communities. ASP’s goal is to make homes warmer, safer and drier for families in need, while offering transformational experiences for families, volunteers and staff alike.
WHEN IS ASP?
We will begin travel to ASP on Saturday, 17JULY and return on Saturday, 24JULY. We will stop enroute on 17JULY at a midway point (dependent on final destination). We will drive the entire return route on 24JULY.

“ASP IN APRIL”
TRAINING RETREAT
Saturday and Sunday
24-25APRIL 2010
This mandatory event will imitate a near-typical day at ASP; everything from chores, ASP training, tool training, and cultural awareness, to a related service project. Failure to attend may result in removal from ASP roster and loss of deposit.
We will spend the day Saturday repairing and restoring a community center in New Bern. It is a big project that will require all participants!

BBQ Chicken Dinner FUNDRAISER
Thursday 01APRIL
This mandatory event helps raise the largest amount of funds for the ASP trip. This year each ASP applicant will only earn funds based on the number of hours they individually work; to be credited specifically toward their ASP trip balance. Parent hours will be credited towards their student, but cannot work en-lieu of the student. Funds will only be disbursed between the ASP and Haiti Mission Teams’ participants.

SAVE MOM AND DAD SOME MONEY
FUEL has four fundraisers coming up in Spring 2010! These are great ways to earn money for your Student Accounts.
1) Friday 29JAN – Cub Scout Spaghetti Fundraiser
2) Sunday 07FEB – Soup R’ Sub for the SuperBowl
3) Tuesday 16FEB – Pancake Dinner
4) Thursday 01APR - BBQ Chicken Dinner (MANDATORY FOR ALL ASP APPLICANTS)
Here’s how it works:
-
you earn hours during any fundraiser you work;
-
these hours translate into dollar amounts (up to $8hr);
-
that dollar amount is ear marked in your name for you to spend on a future FUEL retreat, mission trip, activity or event.
Save mom and dad some money! Or parents save yourself some money and sign your middle school or high school student up for one of the above fundraisers.
Sign up in the Student Center this week! Limited sign up for each fundraiser.
