About Us

Garber Preschool is a ministry of Garber United Methodist Church located in Trent Woods, NC. We are an exciting outreach commitment to the New Bern community that is vitally supported by the church. Garber Preschool was founded to provide a caring environment for preschool children where God's love can be experienced. We operate on a nine monthe schedule from the end of August through the middle of May. Our staff of professionally trained teachers and our limited class sizes assure parents of a quality preschool experience for their child.

Our Director:

Peggy Faulkenberry, the director of Garber Preschool, has been working with children birth to 5 years of age for 26 years. She has a Master’s Degree in Child Development and Family Relations. She has been at Garber Preschool for 12 years as Director. While at Garber, she began the Mother’s Morning Out Program, implemented a hands-on developmentally appropriate curriculum, and initiated the Transition Kindergarten class. She has served on Craven Smart Start board for 6 years and has served as the Chairperson of the Craven Smart Start Board of Directors. Previously, she worked as a credentialed Infant Toddler Specialist in Early Intervention. During that time she served children birth to 5 with developmental delays or at risk for developmental delays. She has taught 2 year old Preschool through Kindergarten classes as well as conducted behavioral therapy with Attention Deficit Disorder children in a local private practice.

Our Staff:

Garber Preschool has been privileged to have an excellent staff with a very low turn over rate. Our staff are some of the best early childhood educators in New Bern. Teachers are required to have a four year college degree, preferably in Child Development, Early Childhood or related human services field. An associate degree may be acceptable if approval is given by the personnel committee of the Garber Preschool Board. Garber Preschool staff have also been through criminal background checks. All teachers must be at least 21 years old and be a practicing Christian.
